An interdisciplinary programme for Japanese language teachers / lecturers

The aims of the programme are:
To introduce you to research in Japanese Language Teaching, in particular, those research activities and themes that impinge on the language learning environment: second language acquisition, language testing and communicative language learning.
To help you explore the interface between research in language learning and the practical learning environment with an emphasis on Japanese language teaching and learning.
To develop technology skills to enable you to evaluate, develop and integrate computer-assisted language learning tools into the language curriculum.
To develop an awareness of non-traditional (i.e. not classroom teaching) methods of language learning, particularly RBL (Resource Based Learning) or distance learning, to enable you to manage language learning effectively.

The programme is divided into seven core modules to provide you with a common theoretical and practical background.
This programme starts in September on a full-time basis. The core units will include the following modules:
Module 1. Secound Language Acquisition
Module 2. Current Methodologies in Language Teaching and Testing
Module 3. Research Methodology
Module 4. Japanese Language and Analysis
Module 5. Japanese Teaching Methodology

Masters level learners need an opportunity to carry out, with tutorial guidance, a sustained piece of independent research (12,000 to 15,000 words) in an area relevant to Japanese Language and Japanese Language Teaching on the basis of Experiential Research.

The course will use a variety of assessment techniques including written assignments and oral presentations.

To be admitted to the programme of study, students must normally possess Postgraduage Diploma in Japanese Language Teaching awarded by the Institute of International Eucation in London (IIEL) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
English language skills (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
